Aristotle was an Ancient Greek Philosopher and polymath. Aristotle's subjects spanning the natural science, philosophy, linguistics, economics, politics, psychology and the arts. Aristotle one of the great creative writer in the English Literature. Aristotle must be focused on the such kind of humanity, natural elements and many more things.

All work written in the 350 B.C.E. and translated by different types of writers.



What is Catharsis ? :-

According to Oxford Dictionary the actual meaning of Catharsis is like...
"The process of releasing and thereby providing relief from strong or repressed emotions."
We can say that the such kind of a strong feeling of connection with someone's emotions, happiness, tragedy, etc. We can say that the Catharsis is the power of concept or story and as well tragic events.

What is Hamartia ? :-

According to Oxford Dictionary,
  • "A fatal flaw leading to the downfall of a tragic hero or heroine."
  • "There's supposed to be an action that reveals the protagonist's Hamartia."

Now let's write brief note on the text which followed Aristotelian literary tradition and that is very famous Shakespeare's Othello.




Catharsis in "Othello" :-

When we read the Othello at that time we also feel connection with the major or heroic character of Othello. Othello blindly trusting on his friend and after that he has face many consequences. As result, he has betrayal by his own trustable friend. The Othello's catharsis show in his suicide. As an audience we feels his betrayal. At that time readers or audience emotionally and mentally connected with Othello. That's why readers or audience feels the same things. We can clearly specify that the Aristotelian literary tradition involves in this drama Othello. Othello's catharsis has taught to readers or audience to be more aware from such kind of aspects in real life.

Tragic Hero :-

Othello passing through the fatal flaw of extreme jealousy. When Othello hears the lie that his wife Desdemona has been cheating on him at that time he feels so much jealousy and after that he kills her. It is a very tragic moment of the relationship and also human nature. And also then he kills himself too, making him the tragic hero of the drama. So that's all are the basis proves that the Aristotelian literary tradition is dealing with the concept of Shakespeare's Othello.

Hamartia in Othello :-

When we read the Othello at that time we can observed the Hamartia or internal tragic flaw in Othello's extreme jealousy. Othello become a very jealous man from his own wife. This is the jealousy point made a large form to create his own destruction. It's a turning point of the tragedy in relations. It show that the visualization in error of some kind of judgement and decision.

Conclusion :-

We can clearly find out the connection between Aristotelian literary tradition (catharsis, tragic hero, Hamartia) and Shakespeare's drama Othello.
